There is ongoing development going on in western New York City regarding the remains of two human bodies that have been discovered within the past 24 hours.

Yesterday afternoon, the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office issued a press release declaring that possible remains of a human body were discovered in a wooded area off Woleben Rd. in the city of Portland. The remains were discovered by a hiker.

Today, the remains of another human body have been discovered in Chautauqua County.

According to the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office, they were investigating the remains of a human body found near the Rails of Trails in the city of Portland. These remains are believed to be those of a woman and were taken to the Mercyhurst Anthropology Lab in Erie, Pennsylvania for further study.

While searching the area, they found another set of remains of a human body. These human remains were also taken to Mercyhurt for study. So far, there is no indication of gender or age, but authorities believe the first set of remains have been in the area much longer than the second set of remains.

At present, the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office is still in the wooded area near Woleben Rd. In Portland under investigation.

The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating cold cases and missing persons cases, per WGRZ. There are currently seven missing persons cases in Chautauqua County.

Chautauqua County Sheriff James Quattrone said they are currently focusing on the cases of three missing persons: Patricia Laemmerhirt, 28 (disappeared in 1976), Corrie Anderson, 36 (disappeared in 2008) and Lori Bova, 26. (disappeared in 1997).
