Sarasota County Schools Announce New Safety Protocols

On Tuesday, August 10, the first day of school, Sarasota County School Principal Dr. Brennan Asplen recorded a video with the updated safety protocol for district schools. The changes were made in response to the surge in pediatric cases of Covid-19 over the weekend.

Suspension of field trips for the next 30 days.

Restrict non-essential visitors and volunteers to campuses for the next 30 days. At a school board meeting on August 4, Asplen said volunteers and visitors would like be allowed on campus if they have attended a screening at the reception. This included temperature checks and responding to a symptom and movement questionnaire. From now on, volunteers and non-essential visitors will not be allowed on campus for 30 days.

Encourage people who are not vaccinated or who are not eligible for vaccination to wear a face mask indoors. “This will mitigate the spread of the virus to the best of our ability within the guidelines of the Governor’s Order in Council,” Asplen said in the video.

Make continuous updates to the Return to Learn and Return to Work manuals.“We will closely monitor the transmission of Covid in our schools and work sites and occasionally re-assess current conditions,” Asplen added.
