Richa Chadha recalls almost interviewing Abhay Deol as a magazine intern: ‘I was working with him six months later’

Actress Richa Chadha remembered her magazine internship and was offered the chance to interview Abhay Deol. Only a few months later, she had become an actress and made her debut with Oye Lucky! Lucky Hey! featuring none other than Abhay.

During an appearance on Mashable’s Bombay Journey, Richa opened up about her years of struggle and said there was a time when she wanted to be a journalist or a photographer. It was while interning at a men’s magazine that she almost interviewed Abhay, who was making huge strides in his career.

She said, “I think even Abhay doesn’t know that I once called him for an interview and said, ‘Sir, we want to do a fashion story with you.’ He had already filmed some popular films, such as Socha Na Tha and Ahista Ahista. And he was going up. He had signed films like Dev D. He said to me: “I have several films in mind next year, give me a cover then, not now”. And I thought, ‘The guy has clarity. Cut to six months later, I was working with him.

When asked if she told this story to Abhay on set, she continued, “I think everyone is nervous for his first movie, and I felt like he was the nephew of Dharmendra… He was very kind. I had a great time on this movie. I’m still friends with some of the other actors.

Richa broke out with Anurag Kashyap’s crime saga Gangs of Wasseypur. She is also known for the Fukrey films and the critically acclaimed drama Masaan. Most recently, she was seen in the Disney+ Hotstar series The Great Indian Murder.
