Olympic diver Greg Louganis has announced that he and Johnny Chaillot are divorcing after nearly eight years of marriage.
TMZ.com first reported on the split, saying Chaillot filed for divorce last Friday in Los Angeles County Superior Court.
The couple married in 2013, exchanging vows at a beachfront restaurant in Malibu.
In a statement, Louganis, 61, said the couple “respectfully and mutually end” their marriage.
“Right now Johnny and I want to share that we are ending our marriage respectfully and mutually,” Louganis said. “Marriage between all couples is most often difficult, and, especially during #pride month, it is important that we say how grateful we were to be among the first same-sex couples to have the privilege of getting married legally, and facing these challenges so many do. It wasn’t that long ago that many of us were certain that this would never happen. And so, we are making this announcement with that in mind, and to ask for the respect and privacy of everyone embarking on this new path that we must take. Thank you to all who have supported and nurtured us during all these years. “
The men met in 2012 on the Match.com dating site.
Louganis, who won four Olympic gold medals in diving, is also openly positive. Chaillot, 60, is a paralegal at a prestigious Los Angeles law firm.
