Hamad International has been one of the global retail hotspots during this troubled year for the industry, with investments ahead of the travel curve in new retail and restaurant environments.

We follow Qatar Duty Free’s progress throughout this year, its 21st anniversary, and take a look at some of the exciting projects ahead as it prepares for a momentous 2022 – in which a major airport expansion and other upgrades and openings will take place in time for Qatar. the organization of the Football World Cup in November and December.

The industry spotlight will be firmly on the wider Middle East and Africa region over the coming days, as the MEADFA conference takes place on November 22-23 in Dubai.

The event’s host tour operator, Dubai Duty Free, also featured prominently in our issue as it is investing in the recovery as well. The reopening of much of its existing footprint and plans for new spaces are a positive signal for the future of travel via DXB and for our industry.

We’re also looking to the future with leading international player Aer Rianta International – a pioneer and powerhouse in the Middle East – and looking at the market through the eyes of leading airport companies Abu Dhabi Airports and Riyadh Airports Company.
