JAZZIZ Travel # 18: Moor Mother (PODCAST)

JAZZIZ trip is a new podcast series hosted by JAZZIZ online editor Matt Micucci who explores jazz and creative music around the world. In this series, you will hear conversations with artists and people talking about the importance of jazz as an art form, the influence of folk musical traditions from different cultures and origins, or simply sharing their thoughts, their ideas and views on their multicultural projects.

Camae Ayewa, aka Moor Mother, is not only a musician, but also a poet, visual artist and eminent thinker. Having established his reputation as a force to be reckoned with in creative music everywhere, especially with his debut album Bone Fetish From 2016, she continued to share her thoughts in a variety of musical and multimedia projects.

His latest album, Black Air Encyclopedia, is a collaboration with artist / soundscapes producer Olof Melander and despite tackling such difficult themes as injustice, the erasure of African identity and a future without the stains of colonialism, she described it as his most accessible album to date.

As with all other versions of Moor Mother, Black Air Encyclopedia also features a host of artists, instruments and guest voices, who, with a wide range of influences and energy evoking the tradition of free jazz, are aptly described in an official press release as “a time traveler’s guide to the modern world ”.
