No regrets. After Greg Grippothe explosive appearance of in season 17 of The bachelorette, the former contestant reflected on the feelings he developed for Katie thurston at the time.
“I didn’t think this would happen between [Katie] and me. I didn’t think I was going to go on and absolutely fall in love with the person, ”admitted Greg, 28, during an episode of the“ Kait Coaching ”podcast on Sunday, November 7. “I think the chances of that are very slim, if not zero. I think only a privileged few are able to feel and really build something with whoever is there.
The couple originally formed a bond that took a turn when Greg told Katie, 30, how much he cared about her during dates in her hometown. When the former Bachelorette couldn’t say “I love you,” Greg decided he didn’t want to stay on the ABC series.
“I just told you that you filled a hole in my heart,” he said on the August episode. “I never gave up on you. I fought so hard for you here… Even though it hurts, I hit my breaking point with it. I gave you everything. I really hope you find something.
Following her explosive start, Katie accused the account manager of “gaslighting” during the Season 17 special reunion. That same month, Greg apologized for his behavior towards Katie.
“I was confused after my initial departure after AFR because I really wanted to end on a high note between us,” the New Jersey native said on the “Viall Files” podcast in August. “But I saw how hurt she was so I really tried to look back the second time since her goal. And yes, I mean, I was ashamed of the way I reacted to those times. She didn’t deserve it outright. It wasn’t fair to her.
Meanwhile, Katie credited the After the rose special to allow the duo to find closure.
“And that’s what people have to remember is After the final rose is sort of speaking your own truth and making it known for this final closure. And that’s really what Greg and I were both able to do, ”she said exclusively. Us weekly at the time. “And we are ready to close this door forever and move on. You can be happy and in love in your relationship, but still be upset about how someone has treated you in the past and you want to talk about it.
Thinking about it now, Greg remembered the lessons he had learned after developing such a personal connection with Katie.
“It definitely arouses emotions and for me, for example, undoing pretty much all physical things up front and immediately deepening the person,” he noted on Sunday. “Getting this deep with someone so quickly and letting someone come into my life where they were meeting the most important people in my life without even doing anything physical, it really opened my eyes honestly and it’s which I really enjoyed about the whole process. “
The Washington native, for her part, left season 17 engaged to Blake Moynes before stopping two months after the broadcast of their trip on The bachelorette.
“It is with mutual love and respect that we have decided to go our separate ways. We are so grateful for the times we have shared together and all the journey that has taken place this year, but we finally concluded that we are not. not compatible as life partners, and it’s the more thoughtful choice for both of us to move forward independently, ”Katie and Blake, 31, captioned their individual posts via Instagram late last month. “We ask for kindness and privacy as we both navigate this transition. We will always want the best for each other and we ask that you please support us in our decision.”
