Beaufort, South Carolina is beautiful. What’s new? A national travel magazine has identified it as one of the 26 most beautiful cities in America.
Beaufort joins famous cities such as Nantucket, Massachusetts, Woodstock, Vermont and Carmel-by-the-Sea, Calif., On the list compiled and published last week by Conde Nast Traveler, a luxury and style travel magazine from life based in New York.
Beaufort obtains props for its rich history, amazing architecture and beautiful coastal scenery. The cuisine served at area restaurants including the Old Bull Tavern, Saltus River Grill and Breakwater Restaurant and Bar is featured.
“Explore the historic Beaufort district, which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1969, to take a photo of these magnificent mansions framed by falling oak trees,” the story says.
The cities on the list of 26 range from southern gems to coastal towns.
Beaufort is the only community in South Carolina beautiful enough to make the grade.
Two communities each in Maine, Vermont and Washington State were on the list, as well as cities in Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida , Hawaii, Maryland, Michigan, Montana, New Mexico, New York, Rhode Island, Texas and West Virginia. and Wisconsin.
Beaufort’s has already made “best of” lists.
In 2019, for example, Southern Living placed the city # 2 on its list of “even better summer small towns in the fall”, behind Beaufort, North Carolina.

The Beaufort Fall Festival of Houses and Gardens allows visitors to take self-paced tours of a number of private homes and gardens in the city’s National Historic District that are not normally open to the public. This year is October 22-24.
