Lady Louise Windsor has borrowed the Countess of Wessex’s clothes from her mother for years, including a Stella McCartney coat and LKBennett shoes.
If we could raid any royal’s wardrobe, it would have to be the Countess of Wessex‘s. Prince Edward’s wife has a fleet of designer items, all classic and timeless. It is therefore perfectly understandable that his 18-year-old daughter, Lady Louise Windsor – can’t resist borrowing a few items from his mother’s stash from time to time.

And who can blame him? We wish we could do the same! Blonde ladies look similar in size, and sharing is caring after all. Not only that, but royals love to upcycle their yarns and channel everyone’s style. Considering the impact fast fashion and throwaway culture have on the environment, we love that young Louise is a huge proponent of upcycling her mom’s iconic looks.

Khaki blazer
Louise, 18, stepped out at the Royal Windsor Horse Show in May 2022 in a stylish woolen coat and matching hat as she rode in Prince Philip’s carriage ahead of her mother. The young royal’s olive green blazer featured a sophisticated collared neckline, flattering structured shoulders and embossed silver button detailing – and was remarkably similar to Sophie’s ME + EM khaki blazer.
Stella McCartney coat
On Christmas Day 2019 mother and daughter went to church in Sandringham. Sophie looked flawless as ever, wearing a Suzannah Brodie coat with an Emilia Wickstead ‘Dalia’ blouse and ‘Richie’ print skirt. She accessorized with a Jane Taylor headband and a Sophie Habsburg clutch.

Louise, meanwhile, wore a gorgeous Stella McCartney tartan coat that Sophie wore and carried a nude Sophie Habsburg clutch that her mother sported on a number of occasions. Louise also wore a braided headband from Jane Taylor, one of her mother’s favorite milliners.
Alaïa dress
Lady Louise chose a very luxurious designer from her mother’s wardrobe when she attended the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s wedding in 2018. The young royal looked sophisticated in a classic monochrome ensemble by Alaïa , wearing the designer’s “Parfum Grey” dress, which features a puffy bodice and skirt.
Unfortunately, it is no longer available for purchase. Sophie is a huge fan of the late Tunisian fashion designer and has been spotted in several of his designs. She wore this dress to attend the Carnival Parade during the Patron’s Lunch celebrations for the Queen’s 90th birthday in 2016.
Stella McCartney coat
A few days after Christmas, Louise goes to church, accompanied by her family, and again wears a coat that her mother once wore. Her navy blue coat is known as Stella McCartney’s ‘Vivienne’ and is worth £1,135. Sophie first wore the design to the Commonwealth Day service at Westminster Abbey in March 2018. Great minds look alike, don’t you think?
Noble MacMillian Pouch
It’s not just for clothes that Lady Louise likes to raid her mother’s wardrobe – it’s for accessories too! In 2018, for the Easter church service, Louise borrowed Sophie’s plum Noble MacMillian tassel clutch. The medium sized clutch is made of calfskin and lined with silk, and also features a matching detachable tassel. Sophie has brightened up many outfits with this versatile handbag, and has been seen accompanying her on royal visits to Estonia.
